Today's Horse Racing Tips

Thirsk 16.45

A real competitive Class 4 with almost every horse is running above its last winning mark. Going to split stakes here with the additional paying places on offer.

First up FAR ABOVE THE LAW and Michael Herrington's gelding makes plenty of appeal in a race where several of the market leaders have questions to answer. He arrives in solid form and has already shown he can be competitive in large-field sprint handicaps, with his profile suggesting there may still be a little more to come from his current mark.

He goes well under today's conditions and a horse that clearly enjoys the test presented by a sharp five furlongs and a strongly-run handicap.

From stall 10 he is housed in the middle-to-high section of the draw, which looks no disadvantage given the historical bias towards runners positioned away from the far rail.

David Probert should be able to get a prominent position, and priced at 9/1 and FIVE places 👀💰🍀

2nd up is the Midgemeisters SPRING IS SPRUNG.

The more speculative of the pair, but drawn in stall 14, positioned exactly where higher numbers enjoy a clear advantage in comparable large-field five-furlong handicaps at Thirsk.

Whilst his recent form figures don't immediately jump off the page, there are enough positives to suggest he could easily outrun his price.

With conditions in his favour and a draw that offers tactical options, there is every chance he can travel strongly before challenging late. In a race where several shorter-priced runners look vulnerable from their current marks

Both are drawn on the favoured side, and positioned to take advantage of the expected race shape.

The enhanced place terms make a split-stake approach particularly attractive in what looks a competitive but open Class 4 sprint.
