Purpose of This Report
Early-season Flat racing is one of the most mispriced periods of the year. Fitness, intent and preparation matter far more than reputation, yet betting markets often lean on past success rather than current readiness.
This report uses objective performance data to identify trainers who consistently have their horses ready to compete early in the season. Its purpose is to answer one simple but critical question:
Is this trainer likely to have their horses ready to compete today?
It is not a tipping list and should not be used blindly. Instead, it acts as a filter — highlighting trainers you can trust early, those who require an additional positive, and those best treated with caution.
The analysis focuses on:
Win % & EW % – conversion and consistency
A/E (Actual vs Expected) – value versus the market
PRB (Percentage of Rivals Beaten) – how competitive runners really are
BSP P/L – whether the market consistently underestimates or overestimates a yard
All trainers are grouped into three practical tiers.
The Key Metric: PRB (Percentage of Rivals Beaten)
All trainers in this report are ranked using PRB.
PRB measures how competitive a trainer’s runners are, not just how often they win.
PRB 0.60+ → runners consistently involved
PRB 0.50–0.59 → competitive but conditional
PRB below 0.50 → often beaten by most rivals
Early season, PRB is more reliable than strike rate alone.
How to Read the Tiers
Tier 1 – Trainers to Follow
Default positives. These yards regularly have horses ready first time out.
Tier 2 – Soft List
Capable trainers who need one extra positive (market support, class drop, right horse).
Trainers to Treat With Caution
Yards that typically underperform early season. Avoid short prices
