Today's Horse Racing Tips
Doncaster 13.40
Trust Sergei a big overnight mover from around 7's into 5/2 making him a very warm order in this 'open looking' 5f sprint.
Canaria Queen looks a big each-way player for Tim Easterby, the yard look to have hit the ground running early with a couple of Beverley winners. This one on the drift a tad this morning and maybe better watched until the ground eases.
Would prefer to back something at a bigger price but will take a chance on Brian Rothwell's in-form OPAL STORM who appeals at just better than a wipes yer face price.
The race does lack depth and she arrives here off the back of a win at Southwell 22 days ago, confirming she’s in good heart at present, and that success came in a similar Class 6 handicap where she travelled well and got the job done decisively.
Nudged up slightly in the weights for that, but remains on a workable mark of 55, and given that she’s still relatively lightly raced in this grade, there looks scope for her to remain competitive.
Proven over the trip and with previous placed form over course and distance, she has the speed for these 5f handicaps, and Doncaster’s flat, galloping suits if she can get into a good early rhythm.
Also noted that this time last year she was 2nd here behind Ancient Times in a C5 off the same mark before winning at Carlisle. Both those races were rated around 15lb better than this lowly C6.
Faye McManoman retains the ride and priced with the 7/1 and the FIVE paying places this morning.
Doncaster 13.40 - Opal Storm (Full Stakes Challenge)
Doncaster 14.15
Ey Up He's A Star was backed LTO for a place but looks to short in this one likely to go off a 4's favourite.
It's a bit of a 'pin prickers' race with not a lot of winning form over the last couple of seasons and a host of unexposed 4yos.
Looking at the each way market, Onemorenomore has enjoyed success here in the past. However, never really performed in drying conditions and 0-12 on good or quicker.
Siding with one going well of late on the AW in David Loughnane's PEARLY SQUIRREL in this competitive handicap.
A solid run last time when 3rd beaten 4½L off 63 can be upgraded given it came over the extended mile at Wolves, and she now drops back to her optimum 7f. Prior to that, she finished a strong 3rd of 12, beaten just ¾L in a Class 5 off the same mark, with that form working out well.
Back off 63 again, she looks fairly treated, especially considering she scored by 1¼L off 59 three starts ago and has remained competitive since.
Proven over course and distance, having won a Class 5 fillies’ handicap here last summer off 65, and versatile regarding conditions, handling everything from good to firm through to soft and the all-weather.
Doncaster’s straight 7f suits her style, and with conditions in her favour, she should be able to sit handy and get involved at the business end.
Looks a solid opportunity for her to get back to winning ways with the Muskrat back on board, 2-2, and priced at 10/1 and the FIVE paying places this morning.
Doncaster 14.15 - Pearly Squirrel (Full Stakes Challenge)
