Today's Horse Racing Tips

Redcar 14.15

Taking out Mayo County who is is sure to be popular after a string of consistent efforts, there looks a couple of EW players but the one that makes most appeal from a value perspective is VALENTINE CATCHER.

Today's race carries an average rating of just 60 and he has spent much of the season contesting races with average ratings ranging from the mid-60s up to over 70 and now drops into a significantly easier contest. He's also racing off a mark of 64 and a full 17lb below last winning rating.

There have also been enough signs recently to suggest all is not lost. He was a respectable third at Carlisle last time out and earlier in the campaign finished second at Pontefract in a race considerably stronger than today's. Those efforts indicate that the ability remains intact and that a race of this nature may be on the radar.

He looks one of the more likely charges to be racing handy without getting involved in an all-out battle for the lead. From stall 12, Duran Fentiman should be able to secure a prominent early position and keep out of trouble, allowing the gelding to use his stamina late on.

Tim Easterby's runners are always respected in these northern handicaps and Duran Fentiman knows the horse well. With a drop in class, a much more attractive handicap mark at a current 12/1 and the FOUR paying places.

The concluding sprint handicap at Newmarket looks a wide open contest on paper.

Fiscal Policy possesses one of the strongest overall profiles in the field, while Rebel Path is likely to be popular given his pace credentials and course form. Spirit Of Jenny also commands respect with an excellent place record under similar conditions.

However happy to take them on and side with John Butler's SPRING BLOOM.

Yard fair well here and despite no winner in 20, they have had enough placed efforts to arrive with obvious claims.

This five-year-old still appears to have a little more to offer and remains relatively unexposed for his current connections. It is still early days with this yard and there is every chance there is further improvement to come.

His latest effort at Newbury reads particularly well in the context of this race. Beaten little more than a length and running right up to form from a mark 1lb higher than today's, he showed he remains competitive in this grade and is capable of holding his own in stronger company.

Importantly, that run suggested his turn may not be far away. He's a versatile sort effective over both five and six furlongs, handles good-to-soft conditions as well as quicker ground and has also proven capable on the all-weather.

He boasts a solid record in this class of race and tactically, the race could play out in his favour. Generally favours horses racing close to the speed, and while there are several runners who like to go forward, Spring Bloom can secure position just behind the leaders.

Callum Hutchinson can hopefully sit close and makes plenty of appeal at double-figure odds with a current 10/1 and the FIVE paying places.
