Wolves Racing Tips

Wolves 18.15

ARTAGNAN — 16/1 EACH WAY - 4 PAYING PLACES🎯

There's a competitive look to this Class 3 six-furlong handicap, with Dark Cloud Rising attracting plenty of support in the market and Knebworth arriving on the back of an excellent third at Kempton just five days ago. Both have obvious claims, while Regal Envoy is another who could get involved.

However, we're going to side with Ian Willaims trained ARTAGNAN.

His recent turf form hasn't been particularly inspiring, but it's his all-weather record that catches the eye, having finished in the first three on all three previous starts on the surface.

He won over six furlongs at Chelmsford last October off a mark of 84 before finishing third of thirteen at Southwell in stronger Class 3 company, racing from a mark of 86 against opposition with an average rating of 89.4, considerably higher than today's 84.5.

Perhaps his most interesting piece of form came here at Wolverhampton in April, when he finished second over today's course and distance off 86, beaten just 1¾ lengths by Gold Star Hero. That form has worked out particularly well, with the winner subsequently climbing to a mark of 99.

Our selected is now rated 83, a pound below his previous winning mark and 3lb below that Wolverhampton performance.

His latest outing at Pontefract was his first for the yard, so there's the possibility of a little improvement with that run behind him. He's also landed trap11, which could prove useful if Robert Havlin can get him away smartly and secure a decent position behind what looks a potentially contested early pace.

His all-weather form suggests he's capable of running a decent race and happy to take ahalf stakes each-way chance at around 16/1 and the FOUR paying places🎯

⭐ Wolves 18.15 - Artagnan (Half Stakes Challenge Bet) ⭐

Wolves 19.45

GENERAL ASSEMBLY — 7/1 EACH WAY - 4 PAYING PLACES🎯

There's a competitive look to this evening's five-furlong handicap, with Little Jaybee, Invincible Crown and Rogue De Vega all attracting support in the early market.

Invincible Crown has been in good form recently and looks an obvious danger from stall 2, while Little Jaybee has Oisin Murphy aboard and is another who should be competitive.

Rogue De Vega completed a hat-trick over this course and distance earlier in the year, although returning from a 265-day absence does leave a fitness question. Sheik Yerbouti also deserves respect after making all over course and distance earlier this month.

However, we're going back to one from our tracker in Charlotte Hobson trained GENERAL ASSEMBLY.

He's certainly no stranger to this course and distance, and his all-weather record of 19-3-9, including 9-2-4 in Class 5 over five furlongs, suggests he's more than capable of being competitive in today's lower grade.

Two runs earlier in the year particularly caught our attention. He chased home Alondra over this course and distance in February before another excellent second at Chelmsford, where he finished over three lengths clear of Fiorella Princess.

He's now dropped to a mark of just 60, having previously won from marks around 70 and been successful off 80 earlier in his career. That gives him a potentially attractive handicapping opportunity if he can reproduce his better form.

His latest fourth at Southwell was also more encouraging than the bare result, finishing just a length and a half behind the winner despite encountering trouble in running.

The draw could be important here. He's landed Trap 1, with Marco Ghiani doing the steering. There's plenty of pace in this one so hopefully not drawn into a dust up so if he can secure a prominent position without getting caught behind horses, he should have every opportunity to put that favourable inside draw to good use.

There are reservations. He hasn't won for a while, and several of today's rivals arrive with stronger recent winning form. But he's only 16 days on from that respectable Southwell effort, is well handicapped on his better performances and returns to a track and trip where we know he can be effective.

On around 9/1 and the FOUR paying places🎯
