🏇Southwell Racing Tips Today – Each-Way Value | 8 October 2026
🏇 Thursday’s racing takes us back to Southwell, where the focus is the 19:30 Class 6 handicap over a mile.
Our Southwell racing tips focusses on this 14-runner 4yo+ contest on the Tapeta. On paper, exactly the sort of low-grade race we like to get stuck into.
Plenty of exposed handicappers and enough going to post to make the pace, draw and each-way angles meaningful. 🎯🔥
BOL if you're making any selections today🍀🤞🐎
Back in the morning around 9.00 am.

Southwell 19.30
SHAW PARK - 18/1 EACH WAY – 4 PLACES, 1/5 odds 🔥
There are obvious reasons why the market has latched onto the likes of Spirit Lead Me, Ernie’s Valentine and Have You A Minute.
Spirit Lead Me is a previous C&D winner who is now well below that winning mark, Ernie’s Valentine was second over this exact course and distance only three weeks ago, while Have You A Minute has both a Southwell mile win and a recent C&D second to his name. They are all respected, but at the prices I’m happy to look much further down the list.
At a nice price with take Scott Dixon trained SHAW PARK at 18/1.
His seven-year-old has never actually won over a mile on the all-weather, he has repeatedly shown he can compete at this trip in races stronger than today’s. He has finished second over this C&D from OR64 in an AvOR71.9 race and third over C&D from OR71 in AvOR68.8 company, while his latest Wolverhampton third came in an AvOR65.1 race.
Those three races alone averaged 68.6, more than 8lb stronger than today’s AvOR60.4, and dropping back to Class 6, he now gets to race from OR63.
The other big attraction is the way this race could unfold as he is the most obvious candidate to go forward from Trap 3, and the Southwell favours horses who can get themselves on or very close to the pace. He is likley to be the one generating the pace and a good record when doing so with three wins and five places from nine runs when getting to the front.
If he can establish an uncontested lead, the question becomes whether the others can actually go past him and did for same when he won over 7f here in March 2025, he made virtually all, was allowed to set his own tempo and then increased it from around three furlongs out, effectively asking the field to come and catch him where he kept finding more.
The recent form is encouraging as well. He was third at Wolverhampton last time in the newly fitted cheekpieces, which are retained.
Mikkel Mortensen doing the steering who knows him well, 9-3-5 up top, and on around 18/1 with FOUR places being paid, I think there is enough in the price to take that chance🎯
