🏇 Friday continues on the All-Weather and our Kempton racing tips focus on the 18:45 Class 5 mile handicap, an 11-runner 4yo+ contest.

Yesterday’s Shaw Park was a good example of the type of horse we want to find, finishing a bridesmaid 2nd 22/1 after being advised at 18/1 — a runner the market had largely overlooked despite having shown he could compete in stronger races and having a race setup that gave him every chance to outperform his price.

Let's look to go one better today and another big-priced runner that may have been underestimated. 🎯🔥

Kempton 18.45

HAPPY VALENTINE - 14/1 EACH WAY – 3 PLACES, 1/5 odds 🔥

There are horses towards the top of this market with obvious claims, but there are enough questions around several of them to make me want to look a little further down the betting.

Of the better priced ones, Eupator has some excellent All-Weather form in the book and Sean Levey is a major positive, but much of his best work has come on Tapeta and over slightly further, while he arrives here following a couple of very disappointing efforts.

Mr Nugget also brings some strong numbers into the race, particularly when we look at the level of opposition he has faced, but again his very best performances have tended to come away from Kempton and over a little further.

That leads me towards Luke Dace trained VALENTINE BOY.

He is a two-time winner over this Kempton mile, and some of his form in defeat over the same course and distance is every bit as interesting. Back in May he won here from OR64 in a race much the same standard as this, while the previous month he finished third in a stronger Class 4 from the same mark in a race averaging AvOR75.5.

He races today from OR65 and his latest run also deserves a little forgiveness. He returned to Kempton just over 3 weeks ago after an extended break, finishing sixth over 11 furlongs. Today he drops back to the mile, where we know he is at his best.

There are several in here capable of going forward. Tronido is the most natural pace-setter, while Havana Touch, Eupator and Potomac River have all shown they can race positively on the All-Weather, so this should be run at a decent enough pace.

The obvious concern is stall 11, and Darragh Keenan will need to avoid giving away too much ground early. If he can get him across, settled and into a reasonable position, the expected pace should give him every chance to work his way into the race.

There is also one little angle worth keeping in mind. Jack Dace, who has been aboard for some of Valentine Boy’s best Kempton performances, is already booked to ride him back here again next week. We won’t overread that today, but it is certainly an entry we’ll be watching closely.

For today, though, he is on a mark from which he has already shown he can compete strongly over this C&D, so at the price he is more than capable of getting involved on merit.
