Today's Horse Racing Tips
Pontefract 15.45
A few of the suspects out in this competitive Class 4 sprint.
Obvious respect for Aberama Gold, whose is one of the classiest horses in the field. However, can't see the nine-year-old carrying top weight here up this stiff Ponty finish.
Emperor Caradoc another of note but he looks handicapped to the hilt now, despite his four victories at Pontefract, his overall winning strike-rate in Class 4 company is not as strong and wipes yer face a tad short.
Going to opt for William Stone's DASHING DICK.
Though not be the obvious selection after two fairly ordinary efforts this season, there are enough positives in his favour to suggest he can outrun his odds here.
Pontefract's stiff uphill finish places a premium on stamina at the trip and he's shown he handles testing tracks well. Previous runs at Newmarket and Leicester offer encouragement with both tracks placing a similar emphasis on seeing out the trip strongly up the rising ground and there is every reason to believe Pontefract's demanding finish will suit him.
The forecast rain would be another positive. Any easing of conditions should play to his strengths and help turn this into more of a test, something that could expose some of the speedier types higher up the market and looks a worthwhile each-way play.
The booking of Jack Nicholls catches the eye. The young pilot has made an excellent start to his career over sprint trips and his claim could prove invaluable in a race where small margins often make the difference.
He's an impressive 7-4-4 here over the 6f and priced with 20/1 and the regulation THREE paying places.
