Today's Horse Racing Tips

Hamilton 19.30

This looks a competitive little Class 3 sprint, but REIGNING PROFIT makes plenty of appeal at around 5/1,

One of the biggest positives is that he has already shown he possesses the ability to win races of this standard. Unlike some of today's rivals, whose recent victories have come in weaker company, he has scored against opposition carrying an average rating almost identical to today's contest, suggesting this level is well within his remit when everything falls into place.

Hamilton is a track that places unique demands on a horse, with its stiff uphill finish often exposing those who fail to see the trip out strongly. That doesn't appear to be an issue here. He has already produced one of his best efforts over this course and distance earlier in the season, finishing a close second in a Class 3 handicap, while previous performances at similarly demanding tracks, including Pontefract, suggest these conditions suit his running style.

His latest effort at Pontefract was another encouraging performance. Although unable to land a blow on the winner, he kept on well through the closing stages and shaped as though his turn may not be far away. The decision to bring him out again just a few days later is interesting in itself and suggests connections feel he has come out of that race in good order rather than needing a break.

The handicapper has gradually given him some assistance too. Now racing 3lb below his last winning mark, he finds himself on a rating that offers every chance of returning to the winner's enclosure if reproducing his better recent efforts.

While he doesn't boast the most prolific strike-rate over the past year, consistency has rarely been an issue. He continues to hold his own in competitive sprint handicaps and today's contest represents a more realistic assignment than some of the stronger races he has contested in recent months, including a valuable C2 York handicap.

There are, of course, one or two questions. His usual running style means he'll need the race to develop in his favour, but there looks enough early pace in this field to ensure a genuinely-run five furlongs, which could set things up perfectly for him to arrive late.
