Today's Horse Racing Tips
Beverley 16.00
Taking out the shorties at the head of affairs will side with HAVANA BLUE at a nice each way price.
Looks a tad overpriced in a race where several of the principals have questions to answer, and there is enough in his profile to suggest he can outrun double-figure odds.
A previous Beverley winner, he scored over this course and distance in August 2024 under today's rider Ryan Sexton, doing so in a contest rated around 5lb stronger than the one he faces here.
That piece of form alone suggests he is more than capable of being competitive from his current mark. Prior to joining Julie Camacho, he shaped well in stronger handicaps at Newmarket, where stamina and finishing effort required is not dissimilar to Beverley's stiff uphill finish.
His reappearance effort at Haydock can be marked up slightly too. Returning from a 155-day break, he was entitled to need the run and faced a deeper Class 4 than this. Historically, Camacho's runners often take a significant step forward from their first outing of the campaign, making this second start back a much more realistic opportunity to judge him.
The pace setup also looks workable. Beverley's 7f contests regularly favour those able to race prominently, and he should be able to secure a handy position from which to attack late.
Priced at 12/1 with THREE places generally available and a fourth place on offer with William Hill 👀💰🍀
Beverley 16.00 Havana Blue (Full Stakes Challenge)
Carlisle 17.28
Again taking the shorties out looks an open looking hill clime at Carlisle and will side with Julie Camacho's COUNT PALATINE.
He looks capable of significantly outperforming his double-figure odds. A four-time winner during his career, including a C&D here last August, he showed throughout last season that he was capable of holding his own in stronger company than this.
Several of his better efforts came in races run to a notably higher standard than today's contest, suggesting he is now facing a more realistic assignment.
The bare form of his two runs this season does not inspire immediate confidence, but there are reasons to be forgiving. Both outings came in races with average ratings in the mid-80s, considerably stronger than today's event, and he now drops into a race where the average standard is around 6lb lower.
That easing in class could prove significant. Equally important is the booking of Rhys Elliott, whose valuable 5lb claim effectively reduces the burden further.
Michael Dods' runners often begin to hit form as we move through late spring and towards the York period, and it would be no surprise to see this stable stalwart step forward from his two seasonal pipe-openers now that conditions look more suitable.
Overall figures 28-4-10 is solid but more importantly 4-1-3 up the stiffer hill finish tracks. The handicap mark may still leave him with a little to prove, but still attractive with 16/1 available and THREE places on offer 💰🍀
