Horse Racing Tips by Always Back Winners:- 20th August 2026

Aug 20
3 min read

Thursday’s UK action comes from York, and Newmarket, with York again providing the headline fare on day two of the Ebor Festival, including the Group 2 Lowther Stakes and the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks.

After a very welcome return to the winners’ enclosure yesterday with Count Palatine landing our 12/1 selection at Carlisle, plus Gold Star Hero rewarding each-way support at 22/1 by making the six places at York, we head back to the Knavesmire looking to keep that momentum going.

Our main betting focus, though, will be the (15:00) Sir Kevin Sinfield 7 In 7 Grand Finale Handicap, a competitive 17-runner Class 2 Heritage Handicap over 7f192y 🦅📊

Today's Horseracing tips below.

Today's Horse Racing Tips

York 15.00

🏇 CERULEAN BAY & ETERNAL FORCE — 14/1 & 12/1 EW, 6places

A very warm order favourite in Ralph Beckett's Centigrade to take on.

Going to take that one on with a couple of darts and first up is David O'Meara's CERULEAN BAY.

With a bit of rain around he looks one of the stronger each-way profiles in this Heritage Handicap and his current turf evidence gives him every chance of outrunning a double-figure price.

He has repeatedly competed at or above today’s level, finishing second of 18 at Goodwood, fifth of 28 at Ascot in slightly stronger races, and earlier in the season going down by just a quarter of a length when second of 18 over this course and distance. He also has excellent Class 2, York, distance and big-field place records.

His habitual hold-up style is the obvious tactical concern, but from stall 9 he is positioned around Centigrade, Bullet Point and Point Lynas, three of the stronger pace influences, which should give him the tow into the race that he needs.

It is also good to have the experienced Daniel Tudhope up top and well versed around the Knavesmire with five places available at 14/1, 5 PLACES (1/5 odds)

2nd up is Willie Haggas trained ETERNAL FORCE.

He provides the progressive angle in the race and, as a four-year-old, there could still be more to come. His current turf form shows that he is already knocking on the door at this level, finishing seventh of 21 at Doncaster, beaten only 2¾ lengths, before going to Hamilton and finishing second in a Class 2.

Today’s does ask for another small step forward, but his profile suggests that is perfectly possible. The mile looks an obvious positive and stall 12 is better than it first appears because he is drawn alongside the strong central pace supplied by Point Lynas and Bullet Point.

That should help Dylan Browne McMonagle get him into the race without having to force matters early. The addition of first-time blinkers adds another potentially positive variable, and it is never a negative having a William Haggas runner in a major York handicap given how competitive his horses so often are on the Knavesmire.

Dylan Browne McMonagle takies tthe ride, he's bang in form coming over from Ireland for this one and priced with 12/1 , 5 PLACES (1/5 odds)
