Today's Horse Racing Tips

Beverley 16.23

This isn't the strongest Class 6 sprint you'll see and, despite Beverley's well-documented bias towards prominent racers, I'm prepared to take a chance on PINPOINT.

Ordinarily I'd be reluctant to side with a horse that is often ridden patiently around Beverley's stiff five furlongs, but this race could set up a little differently.

Several of those drawn wider may have little option but to use plenty of petrol early in an attempt to secure a handy position, and if they take each other on, it could create an opportunity for something arriving late.

Pinpoint made an encouraging start for Suzanne France when finishing a close second on his stable debut after joining from Ewan Whillans suggesting there was still ability to work with.

He confirmed that impression when scoring last season at Hamilton, another stiff five-furlong track, in a race run to a higher standard than today's contest.

Although he hasn't been the easiest horse to catch right, he returns to a mark that gives him every chance of being competitive in what doesn't look an overly deep handicap.

Zak Wheatley takes the ride and has built up an excellent record at Beverley for a young jockey, boasting one of the better strike-rates at the course and priced with 11/1 with three places.
