🏇 Wednesday’s UK turf Flat action comes from Goodwood and Redcar.

The latter looks fairly thin in runners to post and we’ll also be steering clear of the amateur riders’ race. That leaves our main attention firmly on the 17.00 Goodwood, a competitive Class 4 handicap over 6f with a big field and plenty of younger improvers in opposition.

We’ve one experienced course performer at a double-figure price who looks capable of giving the 3yos plenty to think about. 👀🐎💷🔥 👀🐎💷🔥

Goodwood 17.00

MISTER BLUEBIRD – 14/1 EW, FIVE places

There are plenty of obvious dangers towards the head of the market. Brosay comes here after a very good second over this C&D and has been well supported, while the progressive 3yos Percy’s Star, Sound And Vision and Robert Anstruther all bring the possibility of further improvement.

Underwriter is another the market has latched onto after dropping significantly in the handicap. But at the prices we’re happy to take them on with a horse who has already been a double winner for us in the past and whose profile looks much stronger than a 14/1 quoted this morning suggests.

Heather Main’s MISTER BLUEBIRD has an excellent Goodwood record of 9 runs, 2 wins and 4 places, and has spent much of his career operating in Class 2 and Class 3 company, so this drop into Class 4 represents a much more realistic assignment.

His latest run over this C&D came from OR84 in a race rated 5lb higher than this where he finished third, and tomorrow he drops to OR82 meeting an easier field.

He was beaten a fair way by a progressive 3yo last time, but that horse has since gone in again which franks the form. Prior to that, had repeatedly shown he could compete from marks in the low-to-mid 80s against much stronger opposition, including excellent form here.

He is now only 2lb above his last winning mark, and having already won from today’s OR82, his positive course record is a major positive. The trainer sends just this one runner on the day, while the young claimer takes a valuable 5lb off,

At 16/1 with FIVE places, the price looks too big for a proven Goodwood horse dropping in grade and should be capable of getting involved in the places at worst if running to his recent level.
