💥 A nice Class 3winner on the Knavesmire for Michael Dods. NORTHERN EXPOSURE was kept handy by Paul Mulrennan but certainly had to be up to the mark winning all out from Danny Tudhope on Pellitory.
A couple of non runners saw 5% claimed back but still a decent priced winner in our sole selected race of the day. 🏇🍀💰🫎

York 14.10
Big field 7f Class 3 handicap to have a couple of stabs at.
First up one of the more fancied types NORTHERN EXPRESS.
Few in the field boast a stronger record on the Knavesmire, where he has repeatedly performed with credit in high-quality handicaps. Although he hasn't added to his tally since landing a valuable Ascot handicap in July 2024, he's continued to compete with distinction in races of a higher standard than this and now returns from a mark 7lb lower than that last winning rating.
After wintering in Bahrain, his seasonal reappearance at Newmarket should have blown away the cobwebs after a break, and he's entitled to strip fitter for that outing. Plenty of proven form on the going, over 7f, at this level and in large-field handicaps.
York has long been one of his happiest hunting grounds, and his course record suggests he is far more comfortable on the Knavesmire than many of today's rivals.
While his recent figures don't suggest he's thrown in by the handicapper, they do confirm he retains enough ability to be highly competitive from his current mark. Combined with his outstanding York credentials and a race setup that should allow him to settle just behind the pace, he looks one of the most solid propositions in the field.

2nd up is CROUPIER.
He was a smart horse in 2023 and looks as though he's beginning to return to that level. Formerly a smart handicapper for the Crisford stable, he won over a mile before producing an excellent runner-up effort in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2023, confirming he was capable of mixing it in top-class handicap company.
A lengthy absence of almost three years could easily have brought his career to a halt, but there have been enough encouraging signs since joining his current yard to suggest much of that ability remains.
After a quiet reappearance, he shaped with considerably more promise when ninth of 18 over this course and distance in May, finishing much closer than the bare result suggests and leaving the impression that he was building back towards peak fitness.
Those runs have been in better races and suggests he is performing above today's handicap mark.
David Nolan takes over in the saddle, and his patient, style looks well suited to a horse who should be able to settle just behind the pace before delivering his challenge late.
Drawn to secure a good position without becoming involved in an early battle, the race setup appears favourable with 12/1 looking bigger than his chance warrants and the FIVE paying places.
