🏇 Wednesday brings another busy afternoon on the Flat, with action from Bath, Catterick, Yarmouth and Lingfield. 

One thing that immediately stands out is the noticeably smaller field sizes across the cards, with several races attracting just single-figure line-ups.

Perhaps the trainers are simply keen to get their runners home in time to settle down in front of the television and watch the Three Lions take on Argentina this evening! 🦁🦁🦁

Today's Horse Racing Tips

Catterick 16.43

Our Absent Friends is a bit of a market steamer with any value 8/1 to 7/2 being taken on the EW front. He was left alone last week when noted as doubly declared. However didn't run that well and no has two sub-par performances to overcome, albeit drops around 8lb in grade for this one.

Nevertheless, still to run well here so will pass anyway and going to target ALBEGONE.

Tim Easterby's veteran appears to have turned a corner after a spell in the wilderness. Although it's over a year since his last success, he has been running to a consistently competitive level in recent starts and shaped particularly well when finishing a close second over today's course and distance last time, sent off favourite and only finding one too good.

He's regularly run in higher grades than this, while his proven Catterick record is another significant positive. Few tracks reward course specialists quite like Catterick, and four wins from eleven visits underline how well this unique circuit suits him.

There are risks. Stall 7 isn't ideal around Catterick over the minimum trip, and South Shore is a worthy favourite with a solid all-round profile. However, at the current prices there is little margin for error with the market leader.

With David Allan taking the ride, I'm happy to side with a horse who looks ready to capitalise if reproducing the level of his latest effort and priced with 17/2 with three places.
