šŸ’„ A welcome winner with GLENFINNAN who was advised at 5/1, touched around 7/1 during the early drift, and returned 11/2,. Danny Tudhope had him travelling off the pace setters before moving into contention comfortably, took over entering the final furlong and kept finding enough to hold Alpha CapturešŸ€šŸ’°šŸ«Ž

Today's Selections - Danny Tudhope winner

Beverley 15.45

šŸ‡ — GLENFINNAN— 5/1 EW, 3 Places

A competitive Class 4 handicap where the market is giving plenty of respect to Alpha CaptureĀ and Obelix.

However, just outside the market leaders is GLENFINNAN.

The six-year-old already showed exactly what he can do around here when winning over this course and distance in May. That came in a Class 4 0-85 on Good to Firm ground from today’s mark of 78 but in a race rated 6lb higher so looks a meaningful drop in opposition.

He subsequently stepped back into Class 3 company at York before showing much more when returning to Class 4 level. He was fourth at Carlisle and then returned here in July to finishĀ Highland Olly, despite taking a keen hold early.

We backed him at Thirsk last time and obviously expected better, but there are good reasons not to take that performance literally. He raced freely, was prominent on the outside, hung right around two furlongs from home and weakened quickly. Back into a 0-80 Class 4Ā today, that run can be forgiven.

Beverley over this trip strongly rewards horses racing near the pace, but there appears enough pace through Beyond The Bar, Bell Shot and Highland OllyĀ that those wanting to force matters could make life difficult for one another.

Hopefully can sit just behind that around a track where deep hold-up performers have historically been at a marked disadvantage.

There are obvious dangers. Bell ShotĀ is a three-time course-and-distance winner and has been running competitively in stronger company, although stall 9 combined with his forward style could leave him closer to the pace battle than ideal.

Tattie BogleĀ has won for us already and remains an improving four-year-old, but his winning conversion is less persuasive than his place record and stall 10 is not ideal.

Daniel Tudhope takes over for Michael Dods, and with the yard in decent order, the overall setup looks right for a return to form. At 5/1 with three places at 1/5 odds, we get the useful ā€œwipe-your-faceā€ each-way price.
