💥 Exactly the result we needed. Michael Dods COUNT PALATINE wins at 17/2 after we put him up 12/1 each-way with four places.
Ridden midfield rather than forcing things, he travelled into the race, made rapid headway from around a furlong out and hit the front inside the final 110 yards.
Sean Kirrane then got him home by a head from Son to repeat his feat of taking this race last year. The market eventually came for him, but we'd already taken the 12/1.🍀💰🫎

Today's Selections - Michael Dods winner
Carlisle 16.20
🏇 COUNT PALATINE — 12/1 EW, 4 places
Native Instinct and Son are respected, but on at just about wipes yer face prices.
Looking to value in the winner of this race last year, COUNT PALATINE.
On paper he may appear to be the second of the Michael Dods runners behind the more obvious King Of Fury who has strong claims after his recent wins.
However ours looks a decent each-way proposition in a competitive handicap where the market appears to have underestimated a horse with a strong course profile.
He won this very race twelve months ago from a mark of 74, before confirming the improvement when scoring again at Ayr from OR77 later in the season. He races from 78 today, so he is only 1lb above his highest winning mark and there is plenty of evidence that he remains capable of operating at this level.
His form has admittedly been a mixed bag this season, but there was considerably more encouragement in his latest run at Ayr, where he finished only three lengths away in a Class 4 rated 5lb above this one.
The return to Carlisle over essentially seven furlongs looks a major positive and another bonus with Sean Kirrane back aboard. His record up top reads 7 rides, 2 wins and 5 places, so clearly a partnership that works particularly well.
Priced with the 12/1 with FOUR places, 1/5 odds
