With eight races on the card and showers still in the forecast, the feature is the Ayr Bronze Cup at (15.40), while the supporting card also includes the Listed Harry Rosebery Stakes over 5f and the Arran Scottish Sprint Fillies’ Stakes over 5½f.

However, it's the main event that's of interest and we will wing another couple of darts at that one.🐎🔥🍀

Ayr 15.40

ROUSING ENCORE – 14/1 EW and TERRITORIAL KNIGHT 22/1, SIX places, 1/5 odds

There are plenty of obvious dangers towards the head of the market, with Boston Dan respected after returning to form with a decisive Heavy-ground win at Haydock, while American Style brings strong recent Class 2 form and looks one of the likelier pace angles.

Bone Marra has attracted plenty of support despite having more to prove back on turf, while Eye Of Dubai, Woven and U Sure Do all have strong claims on their course, ground or handicap profiles. It is a typically deep Bronze Cup, though, and with enhanced each-way terms available we are happier looking a little further down the list for runners whose Ayr and soft-ground credentials are already proven.

First up Ruth Carr's ROUSING ENCORE.

He looks to have been given a real chance by the handicapper coming back to OR82, the same mark from which he won over this C&D on soft ground last September.

That course form is a big part of the attraction. He has always gone particularly well at Ayr and gave another reminder of that in July when finishing 3rd over this 6f from OR84. That was a useful sighter for this sort of contest and, with another 2lb off his back tomorrow, he is now returning to a mark we already know he can win from at the track.

He has spent much of the last year contesting stronger big-field sprint handicaps and has shown he can still compete from higher marks. He also finished last season with a 3rd on Heavy at Doncaster from OR86 against a much stronger field. That means there is no concern if the rain continues to get into the ground. In fact, the more testing it becomes, the fewer questions there are over him compared with plenty of these.

The obvious concern is stall 24, because we have seen enough this week to know the straight course can develop into separate groups. But there is proper pace around him on the high side through the likes of Jordan Electrics and American Style, so James Sullivan should at least have something to follow rather than being stranded out on the wing.

He comes here after a decent break, which should have freshened him up after a fairly busy spell, and Ruth Carr knows exactly what is required with this type of exposed sprinter.

Priced with 14/1 with SIX places, I think the combination of Ayr form, soft-ground evidence, falling mark and proven big-field ability makes him a very solid each-way play. 🏇💷🔥

Second up is Kevin Ryan's TERRITORIAL KNIGHT.

He's always been a trainer to watch here and indeed has given us some of our better returns at this meeting.

He already has exactly the sort of Ayr evidence we like in these big-field handicaps, having finished 5th in this race on soft ground last year from OR85 before returning here in July and running an excellent 2nd of 17 over this C&D from the very same mark. He lines up from OR85 again today, so there is very little guesswork regarding either the track or his current handicap mark.

His last couple of runs don't look quite as appealing on paper, but there are reasons to be forgiving. He was only beaten around four lengths at Hamilton and his latest 9th at Haydock came on Heavy ground when he raced on the wrong part of the track. Earlier in the season he had already run well from OR85–87 in competitive 6f handicaps, so I don't think his current mark is the problem.

The draw in stall 22 is the obvious question after what we saw here yesterday, with the field likely to split before converging. However, there is genuine pace around him on that side through American Style and Jordan Electrics, which should give Stott something to track rather than leaving him isolated.

More importantly,he has already shown he can cope with the demands of a strongly-run Bronze Cup — that fifth here twelve months ago came against 24 rivals on soft ground.

At four years old he is also very different to some of the older course specialists we considered. He still has scope to reproduce or improve upon last year's effort, and his July C&D second provides current-season evidence that Ayr remains very much his track.

At around 20/1–22/1 with SIX places makes him a very attractive second each-way selection. 🏇💷🔥
