Horse Racing Trackers by Always Back Winners: w/c 19th October 2026
Another busy week on the all-weather, with several horses catching our eye and a few familiar names popping up again. Our horse racing trackers aren't necessarily horses to back next time out. We're looking for runners who have shown something worth remembering, whether that's a return to form, a promising effort from an attractive handicap mark or a performance that might have been better than the finishing position suggests.
Here's what we've added to the notebook this week.
📅 Monday 19 October — Wolverhampton
18.15 – 6f Class 3 Handicap
DARK CLOUD RISING – 1st at 5/1 🏆
A good performance to win after racing in midfield before coming through strongly. His ability to compete at this level over six furlongs looks well established, and the partnership with Mark Winn is worth remembering. One to keep onside in similar Class 3 company, although the handicapper may have something to say about this success.
KIND TOUCH – 2nd
An encouraging all-weather debut, particularly having to overcome the widest draw. Showed that his stronger turf form can transfer to Tapeta and wasn't beaten far. Worth following over six furlongs, especially if returning in similar company from around OR86.
KNEBWORTH – 4th
Only narrowly missed third and didn't enjoy the clearest passage towards the finish. There's still enough evidence to suggest he can be competitive from around OR90 over six furlongs. Wouldn't be writing him off on this performance.
📅 Tuesday 20 October — Newcastle
20.30 – 6f Class 6 Handicap
LORD ABAMA – WON at 11/1 🏆🍀
Our 12/1 each-way selection obliged in good style, showing plenty of determination after being headed before battling back to regain the lead inside the final furlong. The six-furlong Newcastle form was clearly stronger than his recent finishing positions suggested. One to keep on the tracker, although we'll need to see what the handicapper does following this victory.
RYE – 2nd
Finished strongly from midfield and was beaten only a head by Lord Abama. Another decent performance over six furlongs and looks capable of getting his head in front from around OR61 if finding a race with a suitable pace setup.
WOOLRIDGE & PIT BOSS – DEAD-HEAT 3rd
Both worth remembering for slightly different reasons. Woolridge had won over the same course and distance only eight days earlier and backed that up with another competitive effort from a higher mark. Pit Boss again demonstrated his ability to make the frame, although he's more reliant on the race being run to suit his patient style.
MACEDONIAN – 10th
A disappointing follow-up to his earlier Newcastle second. That previous effort remains in the notebook, but we'll need to see another competitive run before becoming interested again.
📅 Wednesday 21 October — Kempton
19.30 – 6f Class 5 Handicap
MARLBOROUGH PLACE – 2nd at 25/1 🍀
One of the more interesting performances of the week. Slowly away from stall 1, he found himself farther back than ideal but finished strongly to take second. Clearly capable of a competitive effort in this grade and worth watching again over six furlongs, particularly if getting away on terms next time.
LIOSA – 3rd at 12/1 🍀
Another to make the notebook after overcoming a difficult beginning. Squeezed early and forced towards the rear, she nevertheless stayed on well to finish third. That effort suggests she's competitive around her current mark over six furlongs on Polytrack. A stronger pace and clearer passage could help next time.
📅 Thursday 22 October — Southwell
16.26 – 5f Class 6 Handicap
MIMIME – WON at 11/4 🏆
Another determined course-and-distance performance, despite a high draw and a rise in the weights since her previous victory. Clearly thriving at present, although the handicapper and shorter prices may make finding another suitable opportunity more difficult.
FLETCHER'S FLIGHT – 2nd at 12/1 🍀
That's now two good Southwell five-furlong performances in a relatively short period. Raced handily from stall 4 and kept going to finish second. Looks to have a workable mark around OR57 and could be worth following in another Class 6 sprint where he can get amongst the early leaders.
ONE FOR HARVEY – 3rd
Backed up his previous Southwell victory with another placed effort, despite racing differently this time. He's clearly enjoying the five-furlong test here, although the market has already caught on and I'd want a more generous price before considering him again.
CRYPTO QUEST – 4th at 14/1 🍀
Another return from a familiar face! Our 20/1 half-stake each-way selection made the FOUR paying places, following his previous second over the same course and distance.
He again demonstrated that he's competitive from around OR53, rallying after racing close to the pace. A definite tracker to retain for Southwell five furlongs, although he's becoming more of a reliable place prospect than an obvious winner.
📅 Friday 23 October — Wolverhampton
16.25 – 1m 142y Class 6 Handicap
YEHUDI – WON at 12/1 🏆
An interesting winner who returned from a lengthy break to score after racing in midfield.
Looking back through his previous Wolverhampton performances, there's a recurring pattern of running well when fresh. He's now produced a second, third and win following substantial absences.
That's worth noting for future races, although the new handicap mark will be important.
PALLISER – 2nd at 14/1 🍀
A particularly encouraging effort, racing much more prominently than we'd generally seen previously and going down by just a head. He had also finished second over this course and distance earlier in the month, so this wasn't completely out of the blue.
Worth following around OR60–63, especially if connections continue with these more positive tactics.
SNAAFY – 3rd at 20/1 🍀
Our 25/1 each-way selection gave us another good run for our money from the car park draw!
Rowan Scott bounced him out of stall 11, got him across to lead, and he kept going until headed close home.
That's now further evidence that his best Wolverhampton performances come when ridden positively. Definitely keeping him onside over this sort of trip, particularly if Scott is back aboard and there's a realistic chance of getting to the front without too much opposition.
BOOK OF LIFE – 4th
Raced closer to the pace than usual and wasn't beaten far, but couldn't find enough when it mattered. Still worth monitoring around his present mark, although I'd prefer a stronger pace and FOUR paying places before getting interested.
📅 Saturday 24 October — Southwell
17.00 – 5f Class 4 Handicap
RHYTHM N HOOVES – WON at 5/1 🏆
A deserved return to winning ways for a horse who already had two Southwell victories to his name. Showed plenty of early speed, was headed, then battled back to regain the lead and keep going.
His previous Southwell wins and recent Ascot second suggested he was very competitive at this level. A strong performance, although another rise in the handicap could make life harder.
BONA FORTUNA – 2nd
One of the more eye-catching efforts in the race. Didn't get away particularly well and was short of room around two furlongs out, but still came through to finish second.
Having won at Wolverhampton on her previous appearance, she's now shown that she can compete in stronger company. Worth following over five furlongs on Tapeta, although her price may well be on the short side next time.
MOULIN BOO – 3rd
Another solid Southwell effort from the previous course-and-distance winner. Raced towards the rear from stall 1 before making headway and staying on into third.
Clearly very effective here, but his running style means he'll often need the right gaps and a sufficiently strong pace. Still one to keep onside over Southwell five furlongs.
ALMATY STAR – 4th at 11/1 🍀
Our 10/1 each-way selection found the FOURTH paying place after racing prominently and briefly leading.
He's now back on a competitive handicap mark and continues to run consistently well, but that winning habit remains elusive. Very much a horse to consider each way when the price and number of places make sense.
19.00 – 1m Class 6 Handicap
LILI MARLEEN – WON at 4/1 🏆🍀
Now here's a lovely example of why we keep these tracker notes!
We highlighted Lili Marleen the previous Saturday after she finished second at Southwell, having raced much more positively and looked a different horse to the one we'd seen in several earlier outings.
Back over the same course and distance just seven days later, she produced another good performance under Luke Morris, moving forward after a couple of furlongs and taking over before battling on to win by a head from OR55.
That's a proper tracker result and confirms that her return to form was no one-off. The handicapper will have his say now, but she's definitely one to keep onside if the more positive tactics continue.
20.30 – 6f Class 6 Handicap
EDMOND HALLEY – WON at 9/2 🏆
A good front-running performance, making all despite facing pressure and finding more when challenged late.
His previous Newcastle third had suggested he was coming back to form, and this confirmed it. Worth watching over six furlongs again, particularly when there's a realistic chance of controlling the early pace.
MEHMAR – 2nd at 13/8F
The strong market support proved justified, with Mehmar going down by just a short head. An encouraging performance under his new trainer and the first real evidence that he's ready to be competitive again on British Tapeta.
Interesting going forward, although I'd be reluctant to chase him at cramped odds.
UNCLE SAM – 3rd
Another solid six-furlong performance from a horse we've had in the tracker since his big-priced Thirsk second last year.
His recent Newcastle placings have now been followed by another good effort at Southwell. He's certainly showing that this trip suits, but the concern remains his ability to turn these placed efforts into victories.
MOUNT RUAPEHU – 4th
His unbeaten Southwell record finally came to an end, but he still made the FOURTH paying place.
That's now three wins and a fourth from four visits here, and his course record remains very difficult to ignore. Worth keeping in the tracker over Southwell six furlongs, ideally when able to sit just behind a decent pace.
DUE DATE – 5th
Our 11/1 each-way selection finished one place outside the FOUR paying places.
He raced close to the early leader, but wasn't able to sustain the effort when the pace increased. The expected opportunity to dominate from the front never materialised, with Edmond Halley getting the run of the race.
Still capable from this sort of mark, but I'll want a much clearer pace advantage before going back in.
PIPERSTOWN & HE'S AN ANGEL – FURTHER EVIDENCE NEEDED
Both have winning all-weather form from workable marks, but neither showed enough at Southwell to justify immediate support.
Piperstown has now run poorly twice since returning from a break, while He's An Angel continues to struggle to reproduce his better Wolverhampton performances at this track.
Keeping their historical form in the notebook, but both need to show something more encouraging before becoming betting propositions again.
🍀 Looking Ahead
Plenty of useful performances to take forward from another busy week on the all-weather.
Lili Marleen was particularly satisfying, following up last week's tracker observation with a victory just seven days later. We've also seen further encouragement from Crypto Quest, Snaafy, Fletcher's Flight, Palliser and Uncle Sam, amongst others.
As always, the trick isn't simply backing every horse when it reappears. It's finding the right course, distance, handicap mark and likely race setup, hopefully at a price that makes the risk worthwhile.
We'll keep watching, updating the notebook and looking for those opportunities the market might have overlooked.
Please be aware that we do not back all trackers on every run and only when we think conditions suit
