Newcastle

20.30 - Free Digital Racecard At raceday-ready.com Handicap

4YO plus | Class 6 | 6f | Standard | 12 Runners | Allweather

Won by Woolridge at 11/2 but the two to take from this for the tracker were Macedonian and Ziva's Star. Macedonian came from further back than ideal to finish 2nd at 16/1 and looks to have found a workable level off 55. Has enough previous Newcastle form to keep onside around the 55-57 mark, particularly if getting a stronger pace to aim at.

Ziva's Star was a huge 40/1 and ran much better than the market expected in 4th. Drawn low and doing her best work late, this was easily her strongest evidence yet over the Newcastle 6f. Still needs to prove she can convert, but worth watching around 46 in another C6 Newcastle sprint, ideally with more pace and a middle/high berth.

Wolves

19.30 - Cavani Champion Style Handicap

3YO plus | Class 6 | 6f 20y | Standard | 12 Runners | Allweather

Far Too Fizzy took this at 7/2 but On Key again showed why he is worth keeping in the tracker. Our 9/1 runner-up got across from a wide draw, raced positively and was still there at the finish. Looks very comfortable around this 6f trip from his current mark and another similar C6 around Wolves or Southwell would interest.

Degale made plenty of the running before finishing 3rd. We had a question over whether he really had the speed for six furlongs but he answered that positively. Around 62 over 6f-7f on the AW, especially where he can get to the front without having to work too hard, he is one to keep noted.

The Caribbean also shaped better than expected in 4th on his first run for the new yard and remains interesting if returned to 7f.

14.10.26

Kempton

19.00 - Racing TV Handicap

3YO plus | Class 4 | 7f | Standard To Slow | 12 Runners | Polytrack

A useful race with Siwa Oasis beating Marengo Storm, Blue Prince and Philanthropist.

Siwa Oasis is still lightly raced and has now backed up his previous Kempton form by winning this C4 from 77. Obviously the handicapper will have his say, but he's an improving 3yo who looks very much at home over the 7f on the AW and goes into the tracker.

Marengo Storm is another worth keeping. His previous poor turf effort hadn't convinced us he was going backwards and the return to Kempton saw him bounce straight back with a solid 2nd. Looks comfortable around the low/mid-80s over 7f on the AW.

Blue Prince and Philanthropist again ran respectable races in 3rd and 4th, although both continue to look a little more reliable for hitting the frame than actually getting their heads in front.

15.10.26

Southwell

18.00 - Follow @attheraces On X Handicap (Div I)

3YO plus | Class 6 | 7f 14y | Standard | 13 Runners | Allweather

Midnight's Dream took this but there were two much bigger-priced runs behind him that caught the eye.

Little Beck Annie came from the rear to finish 2nd at 22/1, making sustained headway before taking second late on. Previous Southwell form hadn't convinced but this was much better and shows she can transfer her turf form to the AW. Worth another look around 51-53 over 6f-7f, particularly if getting a kinder draw or plenty of pace.

Able Astra was another big one at 16/1 in 3rd. Travelled into contention and had every chance around the furlong pole. Still hasn't shown much in the way of win conversion but 52 looks competitive in this grade and another C6 7f AW handicap looks the obvious place to watch her.

16.10.26

Newcastle

18.45 - Northumbria Leisure For Jukeboxes Handicap

3YO plus | Class 4 | 5f | Standard | 11 Runners | Allweather

A cracking result with our 10/1 each-way selection Emerald Harmony winning at 12/1 SP, but there were a couple behind her well worth keeping in the notebook.

Kinetic Force ran on strongly to finish 2nd at 13/2. He already had a C3 win from this sort of mark and previous Newcastle 5f form, so this confirmed rather than surprised. Looks a solid one to keep around 77-80 over 5f on the AW, particularly back at Newcastle.

At much bigger odds Grandlad was 4th at 33/1. He had been badly out of form, but his mark had dropped right down to 74 and this was the first proper sign that the handicapper may now have given him a chance. Wouldn't go overboard on one revival but another straight 5f around 74-76, especially with a draw and setup that allows him to race prominently, would be interesting.

Curious Rover also ran much better at 33/1 in 5th and is another to keep half an eye on if turning up again at Newcastle off a similar mark..

17.10.26

Southwell

16.23 - Book The Bistro In Seasons Restaurant Handicap

4YO plus | Class 6 | 1m 13y | Standard | 11 Runners | Allweather

Won by El Fox but the eye-catcher was undoubtedly Lili Marleen in 2nd at 14/1. Had been available at 50/1 early doors before being heavily supported and, fitted with cheekpieces, was also ridden much handier than previously. Broke well, sat just behind the pace and actually led over a furlong out before being caught close home. That's a sizeable change from what she had been showing and she's worth watching again around 53-55 if the headgear stays on and they continue with the more positive tactics.

Cloch Nua was another to advertise that plenty of his old AW ability remains, running on strongly for 3rd at 33/1. He's down to 53 now and looks one for another low-grade AW mile where there's enough pace to bring the closers into it.

Our selected Soames Forsyte finished 6th. Long-term tracker and plenty going for him beforehand, but there wasn't an obvious excuse here. We won't bin him given his Southwell record and current mark, although next time I'd like to see either a stronger pace or a setup that allows him to sit a little nearer the action before getting involved again.

Portman Blue finished only 8th as favourite but was blocked for room over a furlong out before being eased late, so I wouldn't take that finishing position completely literally. Probably more interesting back over 7f for now.
