Gutted that Gustav Graves won at lumping prices after taking him on at prices. Apache Star, 19-1-9 on the AW finished off very well under Ed Greatrix. Hasn't exactly set things alight for the trainer in terms of wins but did enjoy good post-Xmas for 2023 consistently around the slots. Back down to tat mark from mid 60's may just eke one out.

Backed Sid's Annie who got stuck for room and finished off well enough in 4th. Interestingly looks to be following same pattern last last year. Runs at Kempton, Southwell and Wolves were followed up with a win back at Southwell from a 66 rating. Most wins have come in 8 or less runners.

Porfin knows how to stick his nose in front with 9 wins. He caused problems early on but led close home before folding. Two wins last year off 50 and 53 is now a basement 46. Can do it over the 6f as well.

Won easily by Big R, who was my NB :( That's 3 wins over the 6f C&D for E J-H. Our selection, Runaround Sioux, finished well out of the slots. Still just holds that sole win, so a watcher for a while.

Didn't back in this but expected a better run from Starshiba. Cruised into position 1f out, then hit a brick wall. 0-80 C4 should be fine, but maybe the SS going got him?
Ha ha - here's the AI generated version......
Didn't back in this but expected a better run from Starshiba. The horse seemed to be in a promising position as it cruised into the lead just 1 furlong out from the finish line, showing signs of potential and strength. However, it was at this critical juncture that Starshiba encountered what can only be described as a brick wall, abruptly losing momentum and failing to sustain the lead. This unexpected halt in performance was disappointing, especially considering the horse's previous form and the expectations placed upon it prior to the race. Looking at the conditions, the 0-80 Class 4 rating should have been well within Starshiba's capabilities, suggesting that the horse was adequately suited for this level of competition. However, one has to wonder if perhaps the soft ground conditions, often referred to as "SS going," played a significant role in hindering Starshiba's performance. Horses can react quite differently to varying track conditions, and it’s possible that the softer ground sapped his energy or affected his stride, leading to the sudden loss of pace we witnessed in the final stretch. Overall, while the initial signs were promising, the abrupt decline in performance raises questions about the horse's adaptability to the current racing conditions, and whether adjustments in training or strategy may be necessary moving forward to ensure better outcomes in future races.

Backed Q Twenty Boy for 2nd. Goes well for Alicia Perkins and seems a genuine sort to give you a run for the money. Best form at Chelmsford and Wolves over the 5 and 5f trips.

Gustav Graves backed up his winning effort with a close up 2nd here. Further down the field, Ewan Whillans Ramon Di Loria raced well up to the last furlong. 60 is his lowest mark for a good while on the back of 3 months off. Generally takes a couple before he is in the placing slots but maybe getting his mark down for an early go on the turf. Will keep an eye out for him in the coming months.

Jess Macey's Phoenix Star another looking well handicapped mid 50's finished well enough in 3rd. Won a couple here this time last year from a similar mark.
