Redcar 17.15
Not many of these arrive with any two year winning form in what is a bit of a pin-pricker.
However, Peter Niven's charge, HURSTWOOD, looks to have slipped under the radar slightly and can outrun his odds in what doesn’t look the deepest Class 6 handicap.
It looks a pretty open race where a return to form could easily put him in the frame. Generally comes to hand early and won on 2nd go last term in a similar contest before landing near the end of the season off a similar mark.
Consistency is lacking across the rest of field, so proven ability can count for plenty here with that Thirsk pipeopener in the bag.
The return to these conditions should suit with Redcar’s finish tending to reward those travelling up with the pace before on late. There's not much of that about so can see him being the one doing best from those on the stands rail.
Jack Nicholl's a decent 5lb claimer for the sprints and priced with 15/2 and the FOUR paying places.
Redcar 17.15 - Hurstwood (Full Stakes Challenge)
Redcar 17.50
Similar to the first division with not a ton of recent winning form.
Stormy Pearl heads the market for Dave Thompson with a bridesmaid at Thirsk under the belt. Interestingly, all of her six wins have come in July, and 5 of those at Hamilton. At 7/2 looks opposable.
Another who comes with a run in the bag is Tim Easterby's BARMYBLADE.
Last season he showed he could be a very effective sprinter in this grade, putting together a productive spell in handicaps that saw him win twice in quick succession before following up with another strong placed effort off a higher mark.
Those performances came in Class 5 and 6 company on good ground, often racing prominently, so looks a genuine front-running sprinter who can be difficult to reel in once allowed to dictate.
Handicapper caught up with him after that but today's return to Class 6 company today makes him look much more interesting again.
His recent runs also suggest he’s been primed nicely for this return to more suitable conditions. The 6f run at Thirsk looked a solid pipe-opener after a break, and the sharper 5f at Catterick last time may have come a tad quickly for him.
Nonetheless, those will have sharpened him up and the return to this trip now looks ideal. The pace set up looks positive. Looking at those drawn on the far side, he appears to hold a very strong pace angle and there’s every chance David Allan could do one of his 'pillar to post' charges.
If able to grab the rail and he could easily take plenty of pegging back down Redcar’s long straight.
The pair already have winning form together from last season’s successful spell and priced with 13/2 and the FOUR paying places.
