Today's Horse Racing Tips

Haydock 16.55

Most are looking at Fiscal Policy to follow up that Thirsk 3rd to Juan Les Pins.

However, at a slightly better price will look to the well-treated DANDY DINMONT in this competitive Haydock sprint.

A fair effort last time when 5th of 13, beaten just 1½L at Bath, suggests he’s coming back to a workable level, and that was his return to turf after an all-weather spell. That run can be marked up slightly given how he travelled, and he’s now been dropped 1lb for it which only helps.

Winner at Thirsk in August, he remained in decent form thereafter without getting his head in front, but that recent Bath effort confirms he’s still operating at a similar level. He does well when fresh, and this run comes after a short three-week break which looks ideal.

Now racing off a competitive mark of 63, he looks well treated based on previous efforts, having won off similar ratings and regularly held his own in slightly stronger company. The move back up to 6f today should suit, especially on a track like Haydock where a strong pace can bring his running style into play.

Tom Marquand catches the eye as the booking on the preferred Tinkle charge and priced with wipes yer face 5/1 this morning and the THREE paying places.

For each way value will take a proven winner of 7 races in UNION ISLAND in what looks a very workable Doncaster handicap.

Arrives here with a recent win on his CV earlier this season, and although below that level last time when finishing 7th, that came in a slightly stronger race and he’s now back in a 0–65 where he looks better placed.

Still relatively unexposed in handicaps and representing the Charlie Johnston yard, he’s the type who could have more to offer off his current mark if bouncing back to that earlier winning effort.

The step back into this grade and return to a galloping track like Doncaster should suit, and with P J McDonald booked.

He had a strong record for Mark Johnston, albeit still to score since Charlie went solo, and priced at 16/1 and the FOUR paying places this morning.
